What belongs where? Separate waste correctly

Saxony has a well-organized waste separation system. It helps to protect the environment and recycle valuable raw materials. To ensure that everything is disposed of correctly, it is important to know which waste belongs in which garbage can.

Color barrels

Yellow garbage can / Yellow bag

  • What can be put in: Empty and clean packaging made of plastic, metal or composite material (e.g. drinks cartons).
  • Important: No toys, no general plastic waste.

Blue garbage can

  • What can go in it: Paper, cardboard, cardboard - clean and dry.
  • Important: No soiled paper (e.g. greasy pizza boxes).

Brown garbage can

  • What can go in it: Kitchen waste (fruit and vegetable peelings), garden waste, compostable materials.
  • Important: No plastic bags or packaging.

Black garbage can

  • What can be put in: Residual waste that cannot be recycled (e.g. toiletries, old clothing, broken items).

Glass container

  • What can go in: Empty glass bottles and glasses.
  • Important: No porcelain, no mirrors.

  • Recycling centers (recycling yards)
    For waste that does not belong in the garbage cans, such as electrical appliances, batteries, paint, wood, metals or large quantities of garden waste → You can find the addresses and opening times on the website of your city or district.
  • Hazardous waste (e.g. batteries, electrical appliances, paint) → Drop-off points in the city or district.
  • Bulky waste (e.g. furniture, large appliances) → is usually collected free of charge once a year. Dates are available from your city or municipality.
