If you have children and would like to work in Germany, you will need childcare for your child. There are various options such as crèches, kindergartens, childminders and childminders and, for elementary school children, after-school care outside school hours. Daycare centers and schools are usually tied to the place of residence. As childcare options vary from region to region, it is important to find out about them early on.

Daycare center
Children under the age of 3 can go to a crèche or to a childminder. Kindergarten, also known as a daycare center, is available for children between the ages of 3 and until they start school.
From the age of one, children are legally entitled to a childcare place. Parents can decide for themselves where their child is looked after. Ask the daycare centers about educational concepts and additional offers, such as forest education, music, sports or language development.
The costs for daycare are shared by the Free State of Saxony, the municipalities/cities and the parents. The exact amount is determined by the municipality or town. Registration usually takes place via an online application. You can find the responsible office via the Amt24 service portal.
Preschool
The year before starting school is called preschool. Children are prepared for school through special activities. The brochure "The year before starting school" from the Saxon Ministry of Culture provides parents with information in several languages.
Hoarding
School children up to grade 4 can be looked after in the after-school care center outside of school hours. Care can take place before school, after school and during the vacations. Children can play, do their homework, take part in leisure activities and spend time with other children at the after-school care center. Registration is usually handled by the city or municipality and not directly by the school. As in the crèche, day care or kindergarten, you also have to pay a fee for after-school care.
International day care center
Are you looking for an international daycare center in Saxony? Use the search function of the Saxon Daycare Center Education Server or contact the responsible office in your district for further information and support.
Saxon education plan
Daycare centers are places to play, learn and feel good. They complement family education, promote development and work according to the Saxon education plan. This provides a common basis for lifelong learning and preparation for school. A parents' guide is available in several languages.
