Saxony offers ideal conditions for studying at universities, art colleges, universities of applied sciences and vocational academies. After graduation, there are good prospects in business, research, culture and start-ups. International students generally require a visa for this.
Prerequisites
- A valid passport
Admission to a state-recognized university in Saxony
Note: Depending on the university and subject, different rules apply for admission. You should therefore always check with the university of your choice. You can use the DAAD admissions database to check whether you meet the requirements for your degree course.
On the Anabin portal, you can check whether your school or university degree is recognized in Germany.
- For the duration of your studies, you must provide proof that your livelihood is secured. This is possible via a blocked account(at least 11,904 euros in 2025), a scholarship or a declaration of commitment.
Language skills are required for some degree programs, usually at B2 level (CEFR). Proof can be obtained from the German embassy or consulate.
You will need valid health insurance. EU/EEA students can usually use their own insurance. All others must take out student health insurance with a German provider after arrival. Travel insurance with cover of €30,000 is usually sufficient for the visa.
