Finding the right degree program

With 7 locations in Leipzig, Plauen, Glauchau, Breitenbrunn, Riesa, Dresden and Bautzen, the Saxony Cooperative State University offers a wide range of dual study programs. Here you will find comprehensive information on the dual study programs on offer, including the search for practical partners.

You can also find dual study programs or cooperative study programs at other Saxon universities. You can find the right course of study using the STUDY IN SAXONY advanced search.

Every university has a student advisory service and often even its own career service. These advice centers can provide you with important information about studying and career opportunities after graduation.

Course of a dual study program

If you have chosen a suitable course of study, you will often find contacts to cooperating companies on the university's website.

Alternatively, you can apply to a company or public institution that offers a dual study program. Your "practice partner" will then register you directly with the cooperating university once your application has been successful.

You conclude a contract with the practice partner and are enrolled at the university.

Similar to a traditional degree course, the course often begins in the fall of each year with the winter semester.

The dual study program is divided into theoretical and practical phases. There are different models for this in the various degree courses and forms of training.

During the theoretical phases, you will acquire in-depth specialist knowledge in the courses at the university.

In the practical phases, you can apply the knowledge you have learned directly. You will work on projects with your practice partner and gain valuable experience in a real working environment.

Depending on the course you choose, you can graduate with a Bachelor's, Diplom-Ingenieur or Master's degree.

Depending on the type of course, the full-time dual course of study for a Bachelor's degree or Diplom-Ingenieur takes 6 to 8 semesters, Master's courses 3 to 4 semesters.

Examinations are taken during the course. At the end of the course, a longer written thesis is usually required.

Dual study program integrated into training

With this form of dual study, you complete a recognized vocational training course alongside your studies.

In doing so, you acquire two qualifications at the same time: the university degree and the vocational training qualification.

The duration of study is usually 3 to 5 years, depending on the training occupation and course of study.

You will also receive a salary in any case. This must correspond to the minimum training allowance.

Advantages of the dual study program

The dual study program has a very structured schedule with alternating theoretical and practical phases.

You gain valuable practical experience during the practical phases. The chances of obtaining an employment contract with your practice partner after graduation are often very good. In any case, you can already build up professional networks.

There are no tuition fees. On the contrary: you often receive a salary during the dual study program.
