German is the official language in Germany and is very important in everyday life - for example at work, at the doctor's or at the authorities. Those who speak German get along better and feel at home more quickly.
A certain language level is required for some residence permits. If you want to live or work in Saxony, you should start learning German early. There are many resources that you can use to learn German before you move to Saxony.

Find out how your German language skills are assessed. There are various ways to do this:
- Courses with qualified teachers can be found at adult education centers, universities or private language schools, for example
- Many private language schools offer evening courses or online courses
- Use the quality criteria of the Goethe-Institut as aguide to recognize good German courses
In Saxony, you have various opportunities to learn German or improve your German language skills. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) offers the following courses:
- BAMF integration courses consist of a language course and an orientation course; full-time and part-time courses can be taken
- BAMF vocational language courses (BSK) and vocational language courses for trainees (Azubi-BSK) support integration into the labor market; there are basic courses and special courses; contact in Saxony: BSK.Berlin@bamf.bund.de
- BAMF job-related language courses (Job-BSK) teach language skills that are tailored to the job in question
Tip: Ask your employer whether they will support you with an individual language course.
